Where Should Light Colors Be Used?
Consider the lightest tones as small spotlights for your beauty look’s vast stage. The light hues should be placed to your brow bone and inner corner of your eyes in the same way as our preferred highlighters should be applied to the tops of your features. These are the areas that will reflect the most light, making your eyes appear brighter and adding depth and contrast to the deeper colours that will follow.
Where Should You Use Medium Colors?
Your cheap eyeshadow palette team players are the medium colours. Depending on how dramatic you want to be, they may be utilised to develop and create any makeup look. Medium colour shades that are the same hue as, or slightly darker than, your skin tone are applied evenly across the entire lid for a natural makeup effect.
Apply the darker medium tones in the wrinkles of your eyelids with a smaller, tapered eyeshadow brush to add dimension. Do you have any shiny medium colours on hand? To brighten up your makeup look, all you need is a little swab across the centre of your lid. If you’re trying for a smoky eye, skip the lighter medium hues and go for the darker medium shades instead.
Dark Colors and Where to Use Them
Liners and contour colours are the darkest colours in your eyeshadow pallet. They’ll take the greatest effort, but the return will be amazing. For the perfect cut crease that provides the illusion of large eyes, use the darkest colours to outline a V in the crease of your eye. Alternatively, for a fun pop of pigment, skip the liquid eyeliner and apply the darkest pigmented colour along your top lash line.

Going for a natural look doesn’t mean you have to give up all your colour and joy. Step 1: Prime your eyes with an eyeshadow primer.
Allowing your natural oils to wrinkle or smudge your eye makeup is a recipe for disaster. Apply an eyeshadow primer across your lids, dotting along your top lash line and up to your brow bone with your fingers to save your best blending–and your time. The best eyeshadow primers are light, matte formulas that allow your eye shadows to take centre stage.
Step 2: Create a solid foundation.
Use a neutral hue that is a few shades darker than your natural skin tone for a natural effect. Spread a shade like “Charge” or “OTW” across your entire eyelid using your favourite fluffy eyeshadow brush.
Step 3: Create a crease.
Swap your fluffy brush for an eyeshadow brush with short, tapered bristles, and use a darker hue like “Swift” to lend depth to your eyes. Apply your eyeshadow to the crease of your lid, where your eyelid would normally fold.
Step 4: Finish by blending and highlighting.
You’re definitely dealing with some harsh lines at this point. Smooth up the region where the base colour and dark crease colour meet with a blending brush until the blending seems seamless rather than paint-by-number. To get an extra pop, apply a highlighter with an extra dusting of the lightest colour, such as shimmering “Charge,” right behind your brow bones and in the inner corners of your eyes.
How to Create a Smoky Look with an Eyeshadow Palette
